What is a hex broach?

A hex broach (hexagonal broach) is a precision cutting tool used to machine a hexagonal (six-sided) bore inside a workpiece. It is pushed or pulled through a pre-drilled round hole, removing material progressively until a precise hexagonal bore is formed. Hex broaches are used in the production of Allen key sockets, hex drive components, valve actuators, and torque tools.

What sizes of hex broaches do you manufacture?

SK Broach manufactures hexagonal broaches with across-flats dimensions from 4mm to 75mm in both metric (DIN/ISO) and imperial (inch) series. Non-standard sizes are also available to customer drawings.

What is the tolerance of your hex broaches?

Standard hex broaches are manufactured to H7 tolerance — the most common tolerance for precise hexagonal bores. Custom tolerances are available on request.

What material are hex broaches made from?

SK Broach uses M2 HSS for standard sizes up to approximately 19mm AF, and M35 Cobalt HSS for larger sizes and applications requiring higher tool life. Both materials are heat treated to 63–66 HRC.
